Founder Jihee Aoki opened Aoki Head Spa to help people with itchy, oily scalps find relief. Her approach uses natural ingredients and products made in-house.
The first location sits at 3751 S. Stonebridge Drive, Ste. 300, in McKinney. There, the spa offers a range of treatments, including deep scalp cleansing, scalp relaxation care, neck and shoulder relaxation care, and scalp analysis.
Why Jihee Aoki Started Aoki Head Spa
Aoki said she tried countless shampoos—organic, expensive and everything in between. However, nothing provided lasting relief for her itchy scalp. This experience inspired a deep dive into the ingredients and processes behind hair care products.
Through her research, she discovered that the scalp’s pores are much larger than those on other parts of the body. As a result, they absorb chemicals more easily. She started looking for a more natural alternative and developed her own recipe for shampoo bars.
Handmade Shampoo Bars from Korean Herbs
Aoki’s shampoo bars contain organic herbs like echinacea, angelica root, spirulina, ginger and chrysanthemum. Every few months, she travels to Korea to hand-select the herbs. Then she brings them back to her spa to make the shampoo bars.
The bars use just one chemical for foaming. According to Aoki, the rest of the ingredients are so safe they could be eaten.
“Once I started using this product, I never had issues anymore,” Aoki said. “No more itching. My teenage daughter used to have a very oily scalp, and hers is much better compared to before.”
A Meticulous, Personalized Scalp Treatment
Aoki Head Spa’s approach is meticulous and labor-intensive, which sets it apart from other salons. First, clients receive a scalp analysis with a microscope, so the treatment fits their specific needs.
The shampooing process itself takes 20 to 30 minutes of thorough, traditional brushing. In addition, the spa offers red-light therapy for hair regrowth and a custom water circulation system infused with 12 different organic herbs.
Japanese-Style Relaxation Care
Beyond scalp care, the spa also offers relaxation care therapy.
“I hired that guy to come here to teach my employees how to give Japanese-style relaxation care,” Aoki said. “Our relaxation care is amazing.”
Community, Education and Clean Beauty
Aoki Head Spa also takes pride in community and education. For example, the founder offers DIY shampoo bar classes with recipes, so clients can take control of their own hair care routines.
“This is not just business for me,” Aoki said. “I really want to be honest, genuine and make people healthy.”
Her commitment to clean beauty focuses on inner health rather than just outer appearance. That is why it resonates with clients who want long-term benefits.
